At the start of every Rugby season, we welcome lots of parents and players who are new to Marist or new participants in our game. Working within the requirements of the College Sports Policy, Marist Rugby Club aims to:
- keep you informed
- make your family’s rugby experience as rewarding as we can, and, most importantly;
- support the boys to give them every opportunity to enjoy their particular rugby experience and to take it as far as they wish
Along the way, we will try to create some great memories for the boys. To you, we say, welcome and please don’t be overwhelmed by the amount of information that is coming your way – get involved, ask questions and have fun with your involvement in our club, which is run by the parents for the parents and the boys.

TEAM MATTERS
- Who is my coach… coaches in the junior years are parent volunteers that are generally appointed by the end of Term 1 before season commencement
- What team will I be in?… that will depend on grading – initially, training will be conducted in age groups until you are graded. You will receive plenty of information along the way as the boys are assessed
- When do I train?… once you are graded your coach/manager will let you know, but most training takes place after school on Wednesdays for juniors and Tuesdays and Thursdays for the older boys – this can change depending on each team’s circumstances and oval availability
- When is game day?… always on Saturday. Early morning for junior boys and later in the day as your son gets older. You will get plenty of notice. In pre-season there could be occasional Sunday or mid-week games
- What grounds will my son(s) be playing at?… most Marist teams play their home games at the College or at Pearce oval right up the street from the school. You will be informed about times and locations of away games as the information comes to hand
- When does the season get underway?… just after Term 2 resumes, normally the second Saturday of Term 2
- How do I find out up to date information about my son’s team?… your son’s My Team page will be available to you when you login to the MRCWeb where you will find details of players, volunteers and team info
- When does the season finish?… Hopefully it finishes for your son(s) on the first weekend in September, when they win their Grand Final at Canberra Stadium in front of thousands of Marist supporters!
- What about school holidays?… there are no normal competition rounds during school holidays
- What about other tournaments?… there are generally, one or two tournaments/gala days during the season for certain age groups. This is a great opportunity for the boys to meet players from other schools while families enjoy a great day out
- Is there a Presentation/ Awards Ceremony?… Yes, there is a presentation evening generally held in September
- Will there be team photos?…yes, official team photos are taken around mid-season – managers and school sports staff will make sure that you have notice and a link to the online booking system
- Do I have to play for Marist?… my son played for a local club before coming to Marist. Is he allowed to keep playing for that club? No, it is a strict school policy that your son can only play for the school, and this is part of the conditions of his admission. If your son is selected to play rep, he of course has full college endorsement. This policy is not restricted to Rugby, it applies to all sports at Marist (and, in fact, to most schools across the country).
